I built the first Basic Project Engine with a minimum of tools. The following list documents all that I used.  Most of these will be found in the average home workshop.

  • Razor saw and miter box
  • Small sharp hobby knife
  • Epoxy glue
  • Assortment of jewelers files
  • White glue
  • #60, 3/32", 1/8", 7/32", and 1/4" drill bits
  • Power hand drill
  • Sandpaper in 240 and 320 grit
  • Propane torch
  • 5% silver bearing solder with liquid flux
  • Small bench vise
  • Dremel tool with abrasive cutoff wheel
  • Pin vise (for #60 drill bit)
  • Set of small Allen wrenches
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Small screwdrivers
  • Center Punch

I built the Basic Project Engine without
using a lathe or milling machine.
